Community Taiji Qigong 

Invigorate your weekly self-care routine with the ancient movement art of Taiji Qigong for health. We meet at 6:30pm every Tuesday for a grounding, challenging, light-hearted time of regenerative movement.

Attend In-Person

All experience levels are welcome! We welcome children aged 9 and up. Wear comfortable, soft, flexible clothing. Wear shoes suitable for walking or running and bring a water bottle!

What is Qi Up Academy?

Qi Up Academy is a supportive, motivating martial arts and movement studio located in Oakland, CA. With over 59 years of experience, we specialize in teaching the ancient movement arts of Taiji Qigong for both self-care and self-defense.

Where are you located?

On Tuesdays & Thursdays, our classes are held in-person at 4130 Telegraph Ave., Oakland, CA 94609.

On Mondays & Wednesdays, our classes are held in-person at 4116 Macarthur Blvd, Oakland, CA 94619.

Do I need any prior experience to join?

Not at all! Our Community Taiji Qigong and Taiji Qigong Forms Basics classes are open to all experience levels. Whether you are just starting your fitness journey or looking to enhance your routine with grounding, regenerative movement, you are welcome here.

What classes do you offer and when?

On Tuesday and Thursday evenings, our current class lineup includes:

  • Community Taiji Qigong: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM

  • Taiji Qigong Forms Basics: Thursdays, 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM

  • Advanced Taiji Qigong & Five Ancestors: Thursdays, 7:30 PM – 9:00 PM (Explores closed-door forms, manual weapons, Push Hands, and advanced applications).

On Monday and Wednesday evenings, our current class lineup includes:

  • Taiji Qigong Range of Motion: Monday & Wednesday, 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM

Are your classes family-friendly? Is there an age limit?

Yes! Our foundational in-person classes (like Community Taiji Qigong) are family-friendly and open to children ages 10 and up. For our Advanced Taiji Qigong & Five Ancestors class, students must be at least 13 years old.

What should I wear and bring to class?

We recommend comfortable, soft, flexible clothing and flat-soled shoes suitable for walking or running. Be sure to bring an empty water bottle!

Who will be teaching the classes?

Our classes are led by our highly experienced instructors, Dr. Dan Fields and Sifu Andrew Foster, who bring decades of combined expertise in martial arts and movement to the floor.

Do you offer private, one-on-one sessions?

Yes, we offer Personal Taiji Qigong Training. This is a one-on-one session where you'll get personalized guidance to help you lose weight, build muscle, reduce stress, overcome an injury, or meet other specific fitness and movement goals.

How do I book a class?

Booking a class is easy through our website! Simply navigate to the "Schedule" or "Book" tab in the main menu. From there, you can view our calendar, select the class and time you'd like to attend, and reserve your spot. If you are a new student, you will be prompted to quickly create an account.

Note: If a class is full, you can easily join the waitlist. We will notify you via email if a spot opens up! If it is your first time joining us, you can also fill out the Free Trial form on our homepage.
